What are the differences between the BioPhotonic Scanner and Prysm iO?
- Prysm iO is smaller, fits in the palm of your hand, and delivers results in just 15 seconds.
- It’s a connected device with an app that allows you to track your Prysm Score over time and receive product recommendations.
- Unlike the BioPhotonic Scanner, Prysm iO is available for personal purchase and ownership. They use different technologies: the BioPhotonic Scanner uses Raman Spectroscopy, while Prysm iO uses Spectral Rai technology , which combines resonance Raman spectroscopy and hyperspectral absorption guided by AI calibration.
What is Spectral Rai Technology?
- The Spectral Rai technology used in Prysm iO measures light absorption in the skin and applies machine learning calibration referencing Raman technology to generate your Prysm Score.
What are carotenoids?
- Carotenoids encompass a vast family of chemical components. The best known are Alpha-carotene, Beta-carotene, Lutein, Lycopene, Zeaxanthin, and Astaxanthin. They are yellow, orange, and red organic pigments that are produced by plants and algae, as well as several bacteria, archaea, and fungi. Carotenoids give the characteristic colour to pumpkins, carrots, tomatoes, flamingos, salmon, shrimp, etc.
Are the effects of both Prysm-Certified Products and SCS-Certified Products detectable with Prysm iO?
- Yes! Products with either of the two certifications are formulated to raise carotenoid levels in your skin, and this can be reflected as a higher Prysm Score.
The Prysm iO device and the Prysm App (collectively, “Prysm”) collect data generated during each scan. This includes your scan score and details about your scanning routines and habits, app settings, and preferences.
The connected product generates data only when actively in use. Continuous or real-time data generation is not supported.
Data is currently stored only remotely. Beginning in April 2026, data may be stored on the device for the period of time between when the scan is performed and when the device is next connected to the Prysm App.
Data associated with the device will be retained for the shorter of the following time periods: (1) for so long as an account is active, (2) until deleted at the request of the connected device owner, or (3) ten years. Data may be anonymized and kept for a longer period of time.
Users may request access (or erasure) of their data by following the [Data Subject Rights] [Privacy Center] link on our website and in the Prysm App. Users wishing to sh
are their data with a third party can submit such a request through the link mentioned above. Users reaching out through a third party will be asked to verify their request through email by responding to an email once the request has been started by the third party. Failure to reply will result in denial of the request.
